Scorsese won best director. Not that I hate him but this is NOT one of his better movies. I guess if you have been declined 5 times in a row, sympathy vote overtakes poor movie. You have already heard first hand my complaint about this movie. I am terrified that there will be a sequel to make us more miserable. For a movie that is over 2 hours long, I think what happened is someone said lets not make a “Dances with Boston” and decided to just hack off the last portion of the movie. After reading your review, I'm not too anxious to see this movie. Actually, the last time I was in a movie theater was 1998! Yup, that's right about 8 years ago. Talk about living in the backcountry!! To even get to a theater up here, we have to go 50 miles, one way, over 2 trecherous mountain passes that are over 10,000' - a white-knuckle ride that takes over 1 hour!
