I must comment as well on the guy from the Turkish Daily News. I had a conversation with a potential student for private lessons today. He was an older guy who owned horses. The friend who introduced us at the health club where he works and where I recently started working out insisted that his job is "mafia." I asked again "what's his real job?" Murat insisted "mafia."

At any rate, he said he was thinking of going to Malta to perfect his english. I started to say that I've heard that people going there to learn English are usually disappointed. I sensed that he wasn't listening, so I shut up and kept listening to him.

When he stood up from the conversation, I told Murat what I've heard about Malta. He said "why didn't you tell him?" I was like, "I've learned that guys like this, (people who have enough money to consider private English lessons,) don't like to listen to others, they just like to hear the sound of their own voice." I've learned in giving private lessons to doctors, lawyers, university professors, bank and oil company managers and the like that when they ask a question, it's usually more of a conversational response than an actual request for interaction.

It's funny to hear that this trait wears off on Amerians who work long term in Turkey. Sounds like you dodged a bullet.

My dear friend,I have read this update 3 times and my head is still spinning. Aside from cleaning the cat's shit box, it sounds like all of the vocations you are involved in are interesting and some of them are even profitable. Sorry about the need for a cell phone. It's an odd phenomenon how quickly cell phones were embraced and put into service so quickly in the places where you might least expect. It's like they went from the pony express to broadband without stopping anywhere in between. Can you investigate Turkish Taffy for me? It's weighing on my mind rather heavily right now and I fear I must have an answer to this riveting issue.
