OhLondonApt6 Review: OH London Apartments

As I’ve mentioned before, nowadays, travel does not have to mean pricey hotels with impersonal service. There are many different lodging choices out there, one being a rental apartment. While in London, I chose to stay in a serviced, furnished apartment with Oh-London.com rather than a hotel, hostel or homestay.  Not only is it nice to have a real apartment, it’s always nice to stay in a neighborhood where ‘real’ people live rather that right in the touristy center. It always gives you a more realistic sense of the place.

The Good:

To me, when renting an apartment, these adjectives are at the top of my list: Simple, modern, clean.  That is exactly how I’d describe my flat for the week in London. Nothing fancy…just simple Ikea-esque furniture and clean lines. I really wouldn’t want a lot of over-stuffed furniture and knick-knacks that would be even harder to keep clean. Clean lines = cleaner space. The neighborhood I stayed in just can’t be beat. I was in cute Islington, just a 10-minute walk to the Angel Tube stop and surrounded by lovely cafes, shops, and pubs. The apartment had a small kitchen. I used it sparingly for warming up dinner one night, but my schedule didn’t allow me to really use it much more, but always a plus when trying to save money – especially in pricey London.

The Bad:

My particular apartment was actually in the lower level of a building so it had a bit of that basement feel.  I would have preferred to be on a higher floor. I never met my neighbors, but I certainly smelled them. Most of my time there, my flat smelled a bit like a curry shop. I supposed that’s hard to prevent, but still not the pleasant spring-flowers smell I’d have preferred. The place bordered on basic to cheap-feeling.  But was very clean and non-descript…kind of what you want in a rental apartment.

Disclosure: During my time in London I was a guest of GowithOh Apartments.
