When I moved to Chicago, I instantly became a Cubs fan. It’s pretty hard not to when you live on the north side and you visit the historic house of the Cubs: Wrigley Field. But as I traveled around the world, no one cared, let alone had ever heard of the Cubs. There was one team and one team only I encountered everywhere I went. It was one of the most common logos seen all around the world – The New York Yankees. And in most cases, it was just a highly marketed logo or hat, many people I asked didn’t even know the team…just the New York part.
Yankees Fans Around the World
It’s only fitting that I share this photo essay with you now as the Bronx Bombers slide into the American League Championship Series and are once again that much closer to a spot in the World Series (yes, it’s not really the world…just North America).
I noticed this in 2006.
ESPN noticed it in 2019. 🙂

Loved this post, though I'm totally biased, since I'm one of the world's biggest Yankee fans!!!!! Lets go Yanks!

These otherwise nice looking and smart looking people are wearing the ugliest hats on Earth! I think this is just the result of Overstock.com servicing the world around. I've found in my limited travel abroad that New York is the port of entry and the symbol of the USA to many people. In some countries, the capital city is the only one known to the outside world. Here, it's NY. With good reason…it's arguably the capital of the whole world if you had to pick just one. Just ask any Martian or Uranian or Jupiterian for that matter. They'll tell you. In the meantime, consider the White Sox of Chicago's great south side the most enviable team there is. There's no Sox hats on overstock.com because people buy them at retail. They're the hottest items for Mercurians! The Venusians are no doubt Cub fans! The Neptunites are for the Marlins, the Saturnites; the Angels of course. The Plutarians have been reduced to subplanet status. Their team is the Toledo Mud Hens who are a minor league team for….you guessed it; the damn Yankees!

When I was a kid, I used to be happy when I used to ge ta Cap from my cousin in Newyork. All that mattered was that I got a cap from ,my cousin from "NY"! We never cared or knew about the team!

Fun photos. You're right — all over the world people know the New York Yankees. Glad that you are now a Cubs fan (it's not easy being one, as you know). My family was originally from the south side, so technically I'd have to be a White Sox fan if I still lived in Chicago. 🙂

Thanks Cathy! Yeah…I guess you could say that I am a Cubs fan….but for the atmosphere and the friendly confines. As of late, I've really lost touch with the players. It's not like when I first moved here in 1998 and they were actually in the playoffs. That was exciting! I've seen the Sox a few times too….the new field is so modern!

You're right I have seen Yankees hats in many places overseas. But I have seen other teams logo's as well, particularly Boston.
Lisa
Thanks Lisa. I really noticed that NY logo more than anything. I felt more often people were just fans of NY and didn't even really know the Yankees. 🙂

My whole family loves the NY Yankees and growing up in Jersey, we've been to many, many games in NYC! You brought back such wonderful memories for me and I thank you!!!
